UNITED'S MIDFIELD OPTIONS

  • We are told United have made a £40m bid for Eric Dier, but that has not been confirmed by either club. Tottenham are in a very strong position as they don't want to sell and Dier signed a new five-year contract last September.
  • Marco Verratti was not on United's list of summer targets, but that might have changed. The PSG midfielder has switched agents and signed up with Mino Raiola.
  • Renato Sanches was not on United's original list either. He's been told he can leave Bayern Munich for £42m and has the same agent as Jose Mourinho in Jorge Mendes.
  • Nemanja Matic is available and Chelsea are willing to sell him to United. But we are told clubs in Italy - like Juventus - want him more than United at the moment.
  • Another midfielder United have looked at is Roma's Radja Nainggolan. We reported in May that talks had been held about signing him. But at the moment he is much more likely to sign a new contract at Roma

    Swansea have completed the loan signing of Bayern Munich's Renato Sanches. The midfielder has joined City for the season in a move which reunites him with former Bayern coach Paul Clement, now in charge in south Wales. Sanches cost Bayern £27.5m in the wake of Portugal's victory at Euro 2016, where he was named young player of the tournament. But the 20-year-old has started just six Bundesliga games and was made available for loan earlier this summer. Swansea announced the news in a tweet showing Sanches in conversation with his Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo.

    Dani Alves transfer to PSG to be announced on Wednesday

    Paris Saint-Germain are holding a news conference on Wednesday where it is expected they will announce they have signed Dani Alves  The 34-year-old Brazilian is a free agent after leaving Juventus just a year after he joined the Serie A champions. The right-back had been in talks to join Manchester City and we understand the Etihad side will now re-double their efforts to sign Tottenham's Kyle Walker City need to sign full-backs this summer after Pep Guardiola decided not to renew the contracts of Pablo Zabaleta, Bacary Sagna and Gael Clichy. Alves moved to Italy on a free transfer from Barcelona last summer. He won the double in Italy last season and he helped Juventus reach the final of the Champions League where they lost 4-1 to Real Madrid.

     Muhammad al-Maghrabi, 41, was shot dead in the Yemeni capital of Sanaa on Monday after being convicted of raping and murdering a three-year-old girl. Maghrabi was brought to the main city square in an armoured van before being escorted by soldiers through a crowd of thousands of onlookers. He was laid on the floor being being shot through the back with an AK-style weapon as people filmed on their phones.
